The Australian Youth Mentoring Network is celebrating Youth Mentoring Week across Australia next week.
From the 24th until the 30th of October 2010, a national program of events and activities will showcase and celebrate the positive outcomes of mentoring on young people’s lives.
Mentoring sees the development of supportive and trusting relationships between adult role models and young people to benefit them in various facets of their lives. Types of mentoring can range from community to faith to business, depending on the specific needs of the young person involved.
Supported by the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) the week seeks to raise awareness and generate support from organisations and businesses for the ongoing development of high quality mentoring programs. In Victoria, festivities will begin with a Youth Mentoring Week Celebration Dinner on Monday 25th of October. Other fun-filled and educational events that highlight the pivotal role mentors play will include a Youth Mentoring Week Expo, a Mentor Chef cook off, a Mentor Week Media Workshop and a Group Activity Day at the Melbourne Zoo.
