Yea Secondary School will be getting an early visit from the Easter Bunny this Thursday, as William Angliss Institute delivers thirty boxes of specially baked hot cross buns.

Nicholas Hunt, William Angliss Institute CEO, said: “Everyone at the Institute was moved by the plight of those affected by the bushfires. We lost two promising students from the commercial cookery department in the disaster, and so it’s something very close to our hearts.

“Our bakery department is renowned for its ability to produce top quality treats. As it’s Easter, we thought hot cross buns would be a great way to raise a smile amongst students at the affected schools.”

The Institute will also deliver gifts to Kinglake West Primary, Kinglake Middle Primary and Kinglake East Primary.

The hot cross bun initiative comes on the back of various bushfire relief activities that the Institute has been supporting. Chefs and bakery staff have dedicated their time by helping the Baking Industry Association of Victoria and The Australian Culinary Academy provide hearty and much-needed meals at the Flowerdale Relief Centre.

Staff have also volunteered at the Salvation Army Clayton depot, where truckloads of donated clothing are unloaded, sorted through and taken out to those in need.

Besides all of the above, the Angliss Global Network event, which takes place in April and brings together alumni from across the world, will donate 15% of its proceeds to the bushfire appeal.

Given William Angliss Institute’s tourism and hospitality focus, the Institute is engaging with community groups in bushfire affected areas and government agencies to establish mid to long term strategies from a training perspective.

William Angliss Institute has been a dedicated provider of training for the hospitality, tourism and culinary industries for almost 70 years and annually provides specialist training to 18,000 enrolments that range from short course through to certificate, diploma, advanced diploma and most recently, graduate certificates and bachelor courses.
