‘Stay in Bed Day’ invites Australians to stay in bed to raise awareness and funds for Mitochondrial Disease – a debilitating and potentially fatal genetic disorder that affects children and adults, robbing them of energy.
The disease has few treatments and no cure. Stay in Bed Day aims to raise awareness of the disease and encourage people to get involved by raising much needed funds for the Australian Mitochondrial Disease Foundation.
For Sydney-siders, the charity is holding ‘Bondi’s BIG BED-DOWN’ on Stay in Bed Day this year. The goal is to get as many people as possible into a BIG BED on the sand on Bondi Beach. The challenge kicks off from 10am this Sunday 22 August 2010. So head to Bondi to be part of this free historical event. Organisers ask that partipants come in their PJs and bring a pilllow, towel, teddy bear and anything else that will make you comfortable. There will be entertainment and prizes!
For the rest of us who reside elsewhere in Australia, there is still lots that we can do. Register to become a fundraiser and have your family and friends donate money on your behalf or alternatively make a donation online at www.stayinbedday.org.au
Personally, I’m leaning towards the staying in bed option!
