Pesel & Carr takes top honours at Victorian PRIA Awards

Pesel & Carr has won two State Winner Awards at the Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA) 2014 Golden Target Awards held last night in Melbourne at the PRIA Victorian Communications Gala in the Low Cost / Pro Bono and Issues & Crisis Management categories beating out 168 entries, the highest-ever amount for the Golden Target Awards.

Pesel & Carr entered its ‘Violence Doesn’t Discriminate – Her name was Tracy and she was loved’ campaign for St Kilda Gatehouse and its ‘Bevilles’ Brilliance Cuts Through: Stakeholder Communication during Voluntary Administration’ campaign for Bevilles Jewellers, ending the night with a win for both entries.

Managing Director, Barbara Pesel said, “We’re very proud to be recognised and rewarded for the great work our team has accomplished. The awards showcase our capability in managing issues and communicating across diverse industries. We are committed and passionate about achieving out-of-the-ordinary outcomes.”

Pesel & Carr worked with St Kilda Gatehouse following the murder of Tracy Connelly in the white van she called home in July 2013. The media relations campaign that involved the distribution of a release and Tracy’s real name and photo, resulted in the humanising of Tracy in the media and the recognition of her as a person instead of by her profession as a sex worker.

Pesel & Carr managed the communication to Bevilles Jewellers’ stakeholders including staff, customers, creditors and suppliers during and after the voluntary administration period. Pesel & Carr successfully communicated the intention of restructuring the business in order to grow the Bevilles brand and minimise impact on reputation.

The St Kilda Gatehouse campaign is also a finalist in the international 2014 PR Daily Media Relations Award which is planned to be announced later this month.

The PRIA Awards were judged by a panel of leaders in the public relations profession and industry sector representatives.
