Pesel & Carr won the Public Relations Institute of Australia’s Golden Target award in the ‘Digital and Social Campaign’ Victorian category for ‘Speaking up for speech pathologists: Using video storytelling to spread the word on communication access’.
Not-for-profit Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) is the peak body representing more than 7,800 speech pathologists, “speechies”, who treat communication and swallowing difficulties.
This was a particularly pleasing result because the speech pathology profession has had trouble getting its message out due to a significant lack of community appreciation of the impact communication difficulties have on people’s lives, despite the fact ABS data shows that about 1.2 million Australians reported they had some level of communication disability.
The “Speaking up for speech pathologists” campaign used video storytelling to illustrate the effect lack of communication access has on people in a variety of different situations.
Among other things, the campaign resulted in significant increases in SPA’s social media reach and online following, for example, average engagement per post quadrupled on the previous year’s activity.
The Golden Target Awards are the industry’s longest-running and most prestigious awards.
