Pesel & Carr and the Deakin Melbourne Boomers recently welcomed Maddison Pettit as our 2019/20 Media and Communications scholarship recipient. Maddie will be mentored by both Pesel & Carr and the Boomers throughout the upcoming Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) season.
We caught up with our new recruit to find out what attracted her to the position.
How long have you been a Boomers fan?
I used to go see the Boomers play as a child, back when they were playing at the Veneto Club. It’s exciting and a touch sentimental to now be working with a team I grew up supporting.
Where does your passion for basketball come from?
I’ve played domestic and representative basketball for more than 10 years, so the sport is in my DNA. I hope to give back by helping the Boomers grow support for the women’s game in Australia.
Why sports media?
Working in sports media has always been an ambition of mine; I owe my love for sport to the iconic moments I witnessed on television growing up. It may sound a little cliché, but it really is a dream come true to be combining all my passions with this role.
What areas of media and communications interest you the most?
I am particularly passionate about video and social media marketing. I like to consider myself a creative, and I hope I can also bring new ideas to the table when it comes to content creation.
What do you hope to achieve over the next six months?
I am confident the team at Pesel & Carr can help guide me to becoming a skilled communications professional, teaching me the ways of the industry as my abilities develop and evolve. I want to absorb as much information as I can and enjoy the journey along the way – hopefully with a WNBL title for the Boomers at the end of it!
Go Boomers!
Pesel & Carr is proud to lead this scholarship and help to develop and mentor the next wave of communications professionals.
