It’s the time of year where we swap the office for outdoors, work for white wine and a little stress for sunshine.
It’s also the time of year that we look back on the year that was – we hope you enjoy this little trip down memory lane with us.
What were you doing at 20? Was it a fabulous time, or one you can’t bear thinking about?! We’re sure you heard – we turned 20 this year and it was very exciting for us. We celebrated partly by releasing a series of top 20 tips on our website throughout the year. They covered everything from the best restaurants for your next business meeting to our top reasons why you should consider podcasting. More on those later…
It was an incredible honour to have our work recognised globally by the International Association of Business Communication (IABC), where we received the Marketing, Advertising and Brand Communication Gold Quill Award for our work with Caroline Chisholm Catholic College in Braybrook. The work focused on developing a new brand and messaging that would attract and safeguard student enrolments. We were lucky enough to be awarded across three regions: International, Asia-Pacific and Victoria.
On a more local note, we were also recognised in the Lord Mayor’s Commendations for 2017, for 10 years+ of operating a successful business within the city of Melbourne.
Amidst our award win excitement, we welcomed Caitlin Evans, our Senior Communications Specialist, to the team, who has a background in public policy and law. In her short time here, Caitlin has proven to be an absolute superstar and we’re excited to see her continue to flourish in the role.
We’re also proud to have announced our inaugural Sports Communications scholarship together with the Melbourne Boomers last year. The $5,000 scholarship saw Jessica Whitby receive one-on-one mentoring and coaching from Barbara Pesel, Megan Hustwaite (SEN, Megan Hustwaite Media) and Brenda Cherednichenk (Executive Dean Arts & Education, Deakin University) in the 17/18 season.
Pesel & Carr has a great history of championing women in sport and are dedicated to seeing the Melbourne Boomers be a successful, family friendly and community-minded team. We’re thrilled another talented young woman joined them to shoot for greater awareness of the team, and are looking forward to many exciting applicants for 2018.
In 2017, we achieved out of the ordinary coverage for a client in The Conversation: one piece led directly to three TV interviews, two radio interviews, print publication in The Age and online publication on the ABC, news.com.au, the Medical Observer and international news websites!
We also welcomed on board Quintessential Equity: a diversified property group focusing on commercial and industrial properties in CBDs and other strategic locations. Their commitment to their investors, tenants and staff alike is something we admire and strongly believe in. We look forward to working together for many years to come.
Pesel & Carr are also proud to have worked with our client Syracuse for most of the year from the inception of their brand with a number of intense MessageMatrix sessions, all the way through to the launch in December! Congratulations Syracuse: all of your hard work has paid off and you now have a brand that reflects your passion for innovation and talent with numbers.
We were also engaged to promote Speech Pathology Week, and made innovative use of video. Our focus was on the personal stories of six individuals living with a communication disability in order to share the ‘communication access’ message and highlight the life-changing work of ‘speechies’ across the country. And boy, together, did we succeed…. one single video achieved over 56,800 views on Facebook since being posted, and has amassed over 835 reactions, 200 shares, and 120 comments!
Another exciting new client, Australian Suicide Prevention Foundation, came on board. Watch this space, as we are set to unleash a very interesting campaign in 2018…
We’d also like to thank our clients and partners for another exceptional year. Wishing you all the best for the festive season and we look forward to delivering out of the ordinary outcomes together in 2018!
The office will be closed from December 22 – January 08. For non-urgent matters, we’ll access emails periodically and for anything urgent please contact Barbara on her mobile.
