Melbournians are being encouraged to sign up for one of the highest “vertical” races in the Southern Hemisphere.
People of all ages and fitness levels are encouraged to get involved in the annual Eureka Climb on 14 November and help raise a target of $250,000 for not-for-profit organisations Whitelion and Interplast.
The Climb will be an action packed, all-day event with lots of entertainment, festivities and activities to celebrate participants’ fundraising and climbing efforts. Competitors will begin in 15-minute intervals from 8am through to 12noon.
There are four main categories. Individuals can enter as a Climber as part of the timed competitive section or as a Walker which allows them to complete the climb non-competitively on a separate stairwell without being timed.
Teams of four people can enter as either Walkers or Climbers and, thanks to a partnership with Athletics Australia and Athletics Victoria, elite athletes can apply to be a part of a limited number of 20 males and 20 females competing in Melbourne’s only elite stair climb.
In 2009 the Eureka Climb raised over $120,000 for disadvantaged young people with almost 1,000 competitors taking part.
Whitelion is a not-for-profit organisation that supports youth at risk. The charity works to build meaningful relationships and create opportunities that enable highly vulnerable young people to reconnect with society and reach their full potential.
Interplast Australia & New Zealand is a charity that provides teams of medical volunteers to undertake programs of plastic and reconstructive surgery and training in neighbouring Asian Pacific Countries.
