A culture manager’s role during the winter slump
As the culture manager, I approach my role with utmost dedication. While I may delight visitors or showcase the latest collar from time to time, my true purpose lies in championing my team’s wellbeing. This becomes especially important as the seasons change, and the winter blues begin to settle in.
Humans call it Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Those cold, dark days can sap energy, dampen moods, and leave even the most cheerful feeling out of sorts. It’s surprisingly common, and honestly, understandable. Not everyone has luxurious hair like mine to stay warm, after all.
But here’s the good news: just as I have my go-to winter rituals (curling up on my sofa, demanding walks even in the drizzle), there are actionable ways we can help ourselves and each other through the season.
Supporting the pack through SAD
- Get outside daily: Sunlight is a powerful mood booster, even on a short stroll around the block. Lucky for my team, I’m a fabulous motivator for this.
- Stick to a routine: Regular sleep and meal times are as vital for humans as they are for poodles. Trust me on this.
- Eat well: Tempting as it is to survive on winter snacks (yes, I’m looking at you, biscuit jar), a balanced diet keeps energy levels up and moods steady.
- Stay connected: A chat over coffee, a kind word, or a shared laugh can make all the difference. I encourage my pack to check in with each other regularly.
- Seek support when needed: Whether it’s talking to a friend, manager, or professional, reaching out is always okay. My soulful stare is here to remind you of that.
The bottom line? No one should face winter’s grey days alone. If you’re feeling low, or notice someone who might be, let’s lean on each other. A good pack always sticks together.
Wishing you sunny moments wherever you find them,
