Humans spend a lot of time talking about what they want. I think we should spend a little more time discussing what we’d like kept well away from us.
As an experienced office dog, I have several thoughts.
The vacuum cleaner
A loud, unpredictable machine that eats things off the floor. Things I might have wanted to eat myself. I cannot support its work.
Meetings that run into lunchtime
You may have “one final point”. I have an empty bowl. Please consider which of these is more urgent.
A suspiciously clean blanket
It took weeks to get that smelling right. Now it smells like “spring meadow”, a place I have never visited and apparently cannot roll in.
Being asked to move
If I’m asleep in a doorway, I’ve chosen that location carefully. There are other ways into the room. Probably.
Unnecessary drama
I’m quite happy to bark when something needs attention. Once the situation has been thoroughly sniffed, though, I prefer to settle down. Maintaining outrage takes energy I could be using for a nap.
That’s my advice for the month: pay attention to what makes you uncomfortable, give yourself a bit of space when you need it, and protect your lunch break.
