We oodles like to stick together. While I’m cordial with many kinds of dogs, I most love catching up with my oodle friends at the park, as well as meeting all the new oodles that come to the neighbourhood!
So, as well as confirming my suspicion that poodles are an excellent dog breed, new research has shown we’re definitely among the most sought after!
Greencross Vets and Petbarn’s collaborative report tracking the pet trends in Australia, Pet Pulse highlights on the ‘rise of the oodle’. The report says that poodle crossbreeds have quickly risen the ranks of the most popular dog breeds. Three oodles are in the top eight dog breeds in Australia, with the cavoodle taking out number one since 2016.
Some of the reasons oodles are gaining popularity are our good temperaments and hypoallergenic coats. They draw a parallel to the rise in oodle popularity to increasing rates of asthma and hayfever.
In fact, the first oodle cross was originally designed to help blind woman who needed a guide dog but couldn’t work with a Labrador due to her husband’s allergy to dog hair. To promote the guide dog alternative breed, Guide Dogs Victoria coined the term the Labradoodle and launched a successful media campaign that sparked an interest in oodle crosses. And now the rest is dog-story!
Call me biased, but with all that going for us, I’m not surprised to hear that oodles are a leading dog pick. Bring on oodles of poodles.
